5th Grade students at Evangelina Garza Elementary focus weekly on hands-on Science labs.  These labs help provide students with the opportunity to experience the concepts being covered weekly in their Science classes first-hand.   Students are able to make connections between their everyday lives and Science that they are learning.   This hands-on method of instruction is not only exciting for the students, but it leaves an imprinted mark on how much fun Science can be!!  The increase interest and enthusiasm for Science in our 5th grade students is our goal.  With intriguing labs our students are further developing their cognitive skills in applying Science concepts not only in class but in their everyday lives.

In lab investigations, students work together to perform specific science hands on activities or experiments following the Scientific Process.  From beginning to end, the students follow a set of instructions to accomplish the labs that are given.  They then make observations and provide an analysis of their observations.  Our students chart or illustrate their findings and data and finally come up with their conclusion.  Discovering through their own personal experience during labs allows their mind to relate what is on paper to the real thing and creates a bridge between understanding and applying during their exams.  Nothing is better than learning while having fun!!  5th grade students at Evangelina Garza Elementary are excited about Science!  Who knows where our next scientist might be!
