On Friday, February 1st the Garza Elementary students and staff joined the 10th annual World Read Aloud Day movement by reading aloud from their favorite stories. This movement is an effort to highlight the value in reading aloud to others to share the magic of stories, build vocabulary, and feel a sense of community. Capitalizing on the talent of our very own staff members, our students received amazing read alouds from our Mystery Reader Characters. Student groups were scheduled to come to the library and were welcomed by their school librarian, Mrs. Gutierrez, who characterized a Book Wizard that day. With a wave of her wand, she magically called out a storybook character from the pages of a book. Some of the book characters present in our Mystery Reader Read Aloud celebration were “Chato” from Chato’s Kitchen, The Big Bad Wolf from The Three Little Pigs, “Camila Cream” from A Bad Case of Stripes, and Darth Vader. Students enjoyed a fun, reading based day and they were reminded that any day is a great day for reading aloud!
