Garza Student Address Global Water Supply Crisis

5th grade GT students at Evangelina Garza Elementary are undertaking tasks and lessons tied into National Geographic. Currently Ms.Terri Ochoa is working on being certified as a National Geographic Educator. Students began by doing background research on Google Slides pertaining to water crisis around the world. They have learned about water filtration and the inequity of clean water found around the world. They completed lessons on trying to clean dirty water by using various filtering items. They also created an air dehumidifier. They created an Air Dehumidifier that uses dirty water and cools it to create water vapor from the air and turn it into purified drinking water. This was their solution to providing clean drinking water to remote places that do not have access to clean drinking water. They tested and measured how much water can be collected.

The students were very engaged and full of further questions. They further analyzed the air dehumidifier to know that the locations also need access to electricity. They devised the theory that it would need to be solar powered as an alternative energy source. They would like to re-create this project by making it solar powered.
