A unique group of 4th and 5th grade students from Garza Elementary had the privilege of attending the 7th Annual Junior Jaguar Leadership Conference hosted in December. These student representatives were selected by their teachers based on leadership and civic dedication. In supporting our campus’ STEM designation goals, school counselor, Norma Gutierrez, worked closely with STC conference coordinators to facilitate this prestigious opportunity for our students in which they learned about different careers in the field of math, sciences, and technology. Students attended various workshops and presentations set out by personnel at STC such as Financial Literacy and Occupational Therapy. In addition, students gained an understanding of the importance of college attendance as well as heightened awareness of their own personal ability to use their skills to serve as mentors to their peers and in their community. Students were treated to lunch at STC and were able to interact with other STC Leadership Conference attendees. The conference finalized with and Ambassador Ceremony in which students were reminded that they were now part of an elite group of ambassadors who could continue to share the message of the importance of higher education and their experiences of what STC has to offer to anyone interested in a better future.
