Posted Date: 12/16/2016

On Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the La Joya Stadium we had our annual Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition.  This competition is only for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students from all of our La Joya ISD Elementary Schools.  These events help showcase our students’ talent and unite members of our wonderful community so they can see our future athletes at work.  Every elementary takes their 5 best boys and girls from each grade level.  The competition consists of how far they can punt, pass, and kick a football.  Each event is measured and at the very end is summed to get their total distance.  Every participant gets a ribbon, and the top six athletes (boy and girl) for each grade level get trophies.

Our Evangelina Garza students had a great time at the competition.  For some, it was their first time at the La Joya Stadium, and they couldn’t believe the impressiveness of it.  All the coaching staff worked hard and prepared them for the competition, and our students were ready.  We took thirty athletes to the competition, and five of them got trophies.  We had three of our girls place in the top 6.  Haile Leos, one of our 3rd grade girls, took 1st place.  Roxy Flores, one of our 5th grade girls, took 2nd and Astrid Marroquin another 5th grader took fifth place.   In the boys division, we had two students get trophies.  Aron Rodriguez, a 3rd grader, placed third, and his fifth grade brother, Gilbert Rodriguez, placed sixth.   The coaching staff is extremely proud of all our students that participated.  They practiced during P.E., recess, and at their home to sharpen their skills.

From all the coaching staff:  Jassel Cuevas, Anita Gracia, Daniel Garza, and Moises Ibarra, we want to thank our students, parents, teachers, and principals for making this year’s Punt, Pass, and Kick competition a huge success.  We could not have done it without you.  A special thanks to our head secretary Grace Marrero and our counselor Norma Gutierrez for helping us at the event.  We can’t wait for next year!
